The Vallam Cave Temples

Gnanapureeswarar Temple

Three trees, Vilwa, Neem (Vem

bu) and Banyan are touching close together believed to represent Lord Shiva, Mother Ambica and Lord Vinayaka. Worshipping the trees will ensure unity in family and those separated will have a re-union. The tank from where Lord Shiva disappeared still exists. There are shrines for Varasiddhi Vinayaka, Lord Brahmmandeswarar and Mother Brahmmandeswari.

That’s the reason why the Perumal of this sthalam is called with Thiru Naamam – Sri Srardha Samrakshana Narayanan.The sthalam is called with the name “Pundareega Nallur” (Pindam vaiththa Nallur) and is considered sacred and is equiv

alent to Gaya and Kasi.

 

Chathurbhuja Ramar Temple

Chaturbhuja Kothandaramar Temple is dedicated to Lord Rama located at Ponpadhar Koodam near Pon Vilaintha Kalathur in Kanchipuram District of Tamilnadu. Ponpadhar Koodam is a small village located at about 10 kms east of Chengalpattu, just further to PV Kalathur. The rare feature of Sri Rama here is that he is seen with four arms holding Bow, Arrow, Shanku (Conch) and Chakra.
