Tambaram Corporation will renovate more than 30 parks with upgrades such as new benches, walking paths, enhanced green cover, play equipment, drinking water and improved lighting. The corporation, which manages around 200 parks, is planning to construct three new ones. Despite these planned upgrades, many parks in areas such as Selaiyur, Irumbuliyur, Chitlapakkam, and East Tambaram remain neglected. Years of poor maintenance have left them with broken equipment, overgrown bushes and litter, turning them into eyesores. Residents are worried about safety, especially of children. For instance, the park near St Mark’s Matriculation School is frequented by students. “CCTV cameras and streetlights in the park near the school are not working. It’s unsafe, especially in the evenings. We need proper security measures,” said Jayaraman N S of the VPG Residents Welfare Association.

“Once the repairs are done, we plan to propose plans for sensory and thematic parks. We have raised funds for four science parks featuring interactive exhibits to teach basic science principles in an open-air setting”.
