Ponneri Industrial Node
Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR) plays a key role in improving the Ponneri Node as an industrial base, total budget of 12,301 crores. It connects the Chennai-Bangalore Highway. It also connects with other major National Highways making Ponneri, Thatchur a centre point between these highways and the Kattuplali Harbour.It starts at Kattupalli Port, Ponneri Taluk, and ends at Poonjeri junction near Mamallapuram. It extends over a length of 133 km and connects the entire city from North to South.
A master plan for the Ponneri Node of the corridor is being prepared by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Trust (DMIC), State government’s Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) and Central agency National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) have joined hands to develop the Ponneri node and could be set up in 21,966 acres at an investment of Rs 32,713 crores. For auto and auto components industry, machinery, chemicals and petrochemicals, computers, electronic and optical components. It has the advantage of two major ports – L&T’s Kattupalli port and the Kamarajar port in Ennore. Road and rail connectivity will also be enhanced to the port and to the rest of the region.
