Tambaram Eastern Bypass work delayed due to land acquisition
CHENNAI: The Tambaram Eastern Bypass project is set to be get delayed further due to problems in acquiring land and due to the lack of takers for government bids for eight months . work on the 8.8 km project linking rajkilpakkam junction on Marmalong Bridge – Irumbuliyur Road with perungalathur ,was revived .
But the recent RTI reply from the department Chennai Metropolitan Development Project wing shows the project is getting delayed due to the land acquisition and that work proposed at puthur and rajakilpakkam remains at the tender stage.
Resident activist Dayanad krishnan ,who field the RTI petition said no contractors were willing to take up the construction for more than eight months for unknown reasons .We hope the chengalpet collector holds a meeting with government departments concerned to resolve land acquisition issues and settle pending compensation so that work can resume.
Highway officials said that issues pretaining to acquiring forest land at perungalathur had been resolved recently and monetary compensations to puthur residents and shop owners is in progress . They are optimistic that work will be completed by mid 2024
The Four/ Six lane project was announced in 2011 to reduce traffic congestion on Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road particularly at TAMBARAM
